Which Raimi is on Top? The Best Spider-Man Movies, Ranked

The character of Spider-Man is one of the best in history. To me, he’s up there in the pantheon with Batman and Superman, not just as a recognizable hero, but as one we can relate to and love.

The movies about him make boatloads of money and are so fun to watch. We’ve gotten new ones so rapidly over the last 20 years that there are a lot to sort through, but today, I wanted to go over my ten favorites.

Let’s dive in.

Spider-Man 2 (2004)

A classic of the genre that perfectly balances character drama with superhero action. It’s a masterpiece in telling us the story of Peter Parker, who happens to be Spider-Man. We’re so invested in his life and his struggles, in a way no other hero movie really has shown. Sam Raimi is such a perfect director for these movies because he understands the pulp aspects and also the heart.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

A visual masterpiece with a heartfelt story that redefined what a superhero movie could be. This animated movie injected new life into the character and really revamped the visuals. I was obsessed with the huge world it built and how it gave us a new spin on not only the character’s origin, but also the character — Miles Morales felt like the perfect way in for a new generation.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

The first of the Tom Holland movies injects us into a world where Spider-Man is already in the Marvel universe and is under the tutelage of Tony Stark. We get high-tech costumes and gadgets that ground him, even though he’s still a kid. A fun and charming introduction to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Spider-Man (2002)

The film that started it all, successfully capturing the spirit of the comics, setting a high bar for the genre, and bringing the character back into the mainstream. Again, Sam Raimi delivers an emotional and connected story that sets the tone for all superhero origin movies after.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

A fan-favorite spectacle that celebrates the legacy of Spider-Man on film by incorporating the actors who played Spider-Man before and allowing them to enter this universe and seek redemption. It’s a really fun way to unpack the multiverse and honor all the people and movies that came before.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)

We’re back to the animated movies with fervor with this complicated adventure that ends on a cliffhanger. I have been dying to see the end since it came out. It’s a dazzling and emotionally complex sequel that expands the multiverse in thrilling ways.

Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

A solid follow-up that explores the consequences of Avengers: Endgame through Peter Parker’s eyes and takes the character to Europe on a school trip, which also expands on what it’s like to be a teenage superhero.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Sony came out with a grittier take on the origin story with a strong central romance. It’s sort of a hip take on the character that brought us fun villains and really incorporated New York in some interesting ways.

Spider-Man 3 (2007)

Sam Raimi’s final stint as a Spider-Man director probably had too many villains, but it was so much fun to watch. I thought it captured the heart and soul of the series, even if people were upset at the dance scene.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

We never got the end to this trilogy, so this movie just ends on a really sad note. I genuinely like all these movies, and I always feel bad watching this one because we’ll never get an uplifting ending after Gwen Stacy dies.

Summing It All Up

Spider-Man is one of our best characters and someone who will be in movies for the rest of our lives, probably. His movies always make money and are very profitable.

I hope they all turn out as well as the movies on this list.

Let me know what you think in the comments.
