While the classic Ninja monitor line has been one of the most popular monitor-recorder series on the market for years, Atomos has released a significant update that reengineers the line with a new focus and numerous new features.
Let’s look at the new Ninja TX 5.2” Camera-to-Cloud (C2C) monitor-recorder and explore what it’s set to offer with its new integrated Connect technology, which provides Wi-Fi connectivity for TX/RX streaming and direct uploads.
The New Atomos Ninja TX Monitor-Recorder
Designed to still be aligned with the classic Ninja monitor line, yet packed with new engineering and features, the Ninja TX 5.2″ Camera to Cloud Monitor/Recorder from Atomos is a 5″ on-camera monitor and recorder ideal for use on any set.
Some of the most notable new features include both 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 input/output, integrated Connect technology providing Wi-Fi connectivity for TX/RX streaming and direct upload, a brighter 1500 cd/m² touchscreen display, 8K30 raw recording, recording to CFexpress Type B or USB-C, RF/Bluetooth timecode sync, and a built-in NDI/HX3 license.
All codecs, including your standard options such as ProRes RAW/DNx/H.265, are now built-in.
AtomX Connect Features
The monitor itself will offer a 1920 x 1080 resolution with a brighter 1500 cd/m² display for rich, accurate color precision, as well as 8/10-bit color processing, HDR support, Rec. 709 color gamut, and Calibrite ColorChecker Display Pro/Plus calibration support to help ensure color-accurate, high-quality monitoring of your footage.
As far as wireless features go, the Ninja TX will include AtomX Connect features now built into the monitor. The Ninja TX now has expanded connectivity features.
With this built-in license, the Ninja TX should be able to be fully integrated into an NDI environment, either as an NDI source, visible to all other authorized devices on the network, or as an NDI receiver, providing high-quality, low-bandwidth video.
Camera to Cloud Workflows
What’s perhaps most notable about the new Ninja TX is simply that C2C workflows will now allow users to upload their video files directly from their Atomos monitor-recorder directly to the cloud. Atomos will further support direct progressive upload to their own cloud platform, ATOMOSphere, as well as Adobe Frame.io and Dropbox. Unlike its predecessors, the Ninja TX has everything you need for C2C built in.
As far as HDMI input goes, the Ninja TX will support 8K video up to 30 fps, up to 4K60, and up to 1080p120. Loop-through passes the incoming HDMI signal from the camera to another device, for example, an external monitor, wireless transmitter, or live streaming encoder.
Also, the addition of 12G-SDI means a wider range of cameras and production workflows is supported, and the SDI ports also support loop-through. The monitor also supports cross-conversion from HDMI to 12G-SDI and 12G-SDI to HDMI.
