Take This FREE 15 Week Screenwriting Course

As someone in insurmountable debt from getting my master’s in screenwriting, I really wish classes like Nathan Graham Davis’s free screenwriting seminar were around when I was a youth.

This is a very cool idea.

Basically, Davis has created a way for you to get into a writing group and then has put his entire course on YouTube so you can go through week by week.

You can find the playlist here.

In Davis’s words: “The goal of the whole thing is pretty simple: to get you to the first draft of a feature screenplay, while building a foundation that will help you move forward, become self-sufficient, and stay motivated well beyond those first 15 weeks.”

What I liked about this and why I’m posting about it is that there are tangible things you are getting out of it, and you’re paying nothing for it.

By the time you finish, you’ll have:

Formed a writers groupRead and analyzed 12 screenplaysWritten a short screenplayGenerated ten concepts for a featureBegun building a networkWritten a one-pagerWritten an outlineRevised that outlineWritten the first draft of a feature screenplay

That’s a solid amount of stuff!

Davis also includes a little disclaimer: “This course won’t teach you everything you could possibly know. It won’t sell a script for you. I’m just a guy. I have a single credit to my name. I’m always learning, and I’m nowhere near the level of writers like John August, Craig Mazin, Meg LeFauve, Lorien McKenna, Terry Rossio, and Michael Arndt, all of whom have made incredible podcasts, columns, and videos available for free online.”

But as he says, this is a FREE RESOURCE.

And I love it when people give stuff away for free.

Here are all the things you’re going to need or want out of it.

Now, I haven’t taken this course at all, but as the pioneer of No Film School’s How to Write a Screenplay in Ten Weeks, and our FREE Screenwriting Book, I think whatever it takes to get you to your finished draft is great.

We need more awesome movies out there.

Let me know what you think in the comments.
