Many aspects of Robert Eggers‘ newest film, Nosferatu, stray from what’s expected in a vampire movie. While there are plenty of faithful recreations of moments or shots from the original 1922 film, there are also fundamental changes to what is expected of a vampire to found in Egger’s vision. Case in point: the way that Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård) drains the blood from his victims is entirely different from not just what was seen in the original Nosferatu, but also an interesting contrast to what’s been seen in almost every vampire movie up to this point.
