Directors often try their best to avoid the screen and focus on managing other aspects of the production process. However, once in a while, some of them feel the need to be part of a cast, and whenever they do so, it tends to be in their movies. The trend was popularized by Alfred Hitchcock, who, at the height of his career, made a habit of appearing in a cameo capacity in all his movies.
