Given the headlines about the box office performance of The Marvels, which has touted it as the lowest opening weekend debut in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would be easy to throw director Nia DaCosta under the bus for its financial shortcomings. She was the captain of this ship, and the media does love to lay blame on someone or something when a film fails. It gets especially tricky when the director happens to be a female, let alone a female of color.
