While Matt Damon and Ben Affleck had acting careers before 1997, their big breakthrough,Good Will Hunting, put them on the map. Even though they found individual success, their bond as friends endures on a personal and creative level. Following the success of Good Will Hunting, director Kevin Smith embarked on his most ambitious effort to date with 1999’s Dogma, a religious-themed comedy that featured a stacked ensemble cast. Dogma presented an opportunity to add Damon to his ranks and, in pairing him with his best friend, Affleck, as two fallen angels on a quest to return to Heaven after being cast out by God, he would showcase the pair at their very best.
