Even though they found individual success, their bond as friends endures on a personal and creative level. Following the success of Good Will Hunting, director Kevin Smith embarked on his most ambitious effort to date with 1999’s Dogma, a religious-themed comedy that featured a stacked ensemble cast. Dogma presented an opportunity to add Damon to his ranks and, in pairing him with his best friend, Affleck, as two fallen angels on a quest to return to Heaven after being cast out by God, he would showcase the pair at their very best.
