Further Unlock the Uniqueness of the Fujifilm X half Camera With This Companion App

While there are dozens (if not hundreds) of new cameras announced and released every year from manufacturers both big and small, it’s rare that any of these cameras truly stand out in terms of unique functions or features.

The new Fujifilm X half camera, which we covered when it was announced the other week, is one of those rare instances where the camera is quite different, innovative, and unique. It’s also perhaps not for everyone. But if you’re a photographer or hybrid photo and video creator looking for a very specific aesthetic, it might be the greatest thing in the world.

To go along with the Fujifilm X half camera, Fujifilm has released an “essential companion” app that should add more remote control and browsing features and support. Let’s check out the Fujifilm X half app and what it can offer for this fun and innovative camera.

The Fujifilm X half Camera

Before we look at the companion app, let’s quickly rehash what the Fujifilm X half camera is all about. Designed as a way to recreate the idea of a half-frame film camera in digital form, the FUJIFILM X half is an especially sleek and portable point-and-shoot with a unique vertical 1″ sensor design, fixed wide-angle prime lens, and several film-reminiscent shooting functions meant to replicate the enjoyment and decisiveness of shooting film.

The idea is a riff on the half-frame concept from the film world as the X half features a 1″ sensor, which is vertically oriented, that produces 18MP 3:4 stills and videos. This sensor works alongside the Film Simulation modes to produce filmic and expressive images and benefits by a +/-3 EV exposure compensation dial and manual exposure control settings that are adjustable via the lens’s aperture ring and from the rear touchscreen.

The X half app unlocks the transferring of images to your smartphone as a way to keep the joy of photography to continue. The app also lets shooters remotely browse or even control their X half camera as a way to eliminate the need for your usual cable transfers or SD card workflows.

The app also unlocks the ability to create 2-in-1 diptych images which fully take advantage of the X half’s vertically oriented 1-inch sensor. Through Bluetooth connection, the app also makes use of the geotagging information of your camera which allows for synchronization with the geotagging information of your mobile device. The communication interval can be set as short as 10 seconds for accuracy.
