Bad news, Criterion Collection crowd: your movie fix could be in danger if Donald Trump has any say in the matter. This week, he hinted at a 100% tariff on all films produced outside the United States, warning of a “National Security threat.” On his Truth Social platform, Trump outlined a new policy that would encourage (or, perhaps more fittingly, coerce) film companies to seek domestic co-production deals and shoot within the United States instead of abroad, directing the Department of Commerce and other U.S. government agencies to look into enacting heavy import fees.
