A Minecraft Movie couldn’t have come along at a better time because the theater industry has been reeling in 2025. Certainly, the situation is expected to pick up when the summer movie season begins, thanks to titles like Superman and Jurassic World Rebirth, but Jason Momoa and Jack Black’s adaptation of the classic video game franchise got the ball — or voxel sphere in this case — rolling early. Minecraft opened at No. 1 with an estimated $157 million at the domestic box office, and the flick made almost as much money as the billion-dollar blockbuster Barbie ($162 million) did over its own opening weekend back in the summer of 2023!
