Jerry Springer’s Most Controversial Moment Was an Opera

In 2003, British comedians Stewart Lee and Richard Thomas premiered Jerry Springer: The Opera, a new musical very loosely based on America’s Jerry Springer talk show. It was a real musical sensation, going on to win award after award and ran for a whopping 609 performances in London before touring. However, it was also the subject of fairly significant press and public outrage in the UK when a television version was broadcast a couple of years after the stage show opened.
