Film critics are important. Their reviews are a tool for audiences, a go-to resource that helps viewers discern which films are worth their time and money. And one of cinema’s most famous and important critics was Gene Siskel of the Chicago Tribune. Most people associate Siskel with his collaboration with fellow film critic Roger Ebert and their “thumbs up, thumbs down” rating system, the seal of approval that many viewers needed before seeing a movie.
