American Primeval is now streaming on Netflix, a brutal new Western miniseries that serves as the streamer’s response to the current resurgence of the genre. Starring Betty Gilpin and Taylor Kitsch, American Primeval takes place in 1857 in the Utah Territory, at the peak of a bloody, widespread conflict fueled by culture, religion, and the need for survival. While it seems the new Netflix show lives up to the hardcore violence promised by the streamer, many critics believe American Primeval may be too grim for its own good.
