Before dying peacefully at his home in Maui on Saturday, September 28, Kris Kristofferson had been a jack of all trades and a master of all of them. Those included being a star athlete, dredging an atoll in the South Pacific, piloting helicopters, writing timeless songs like “Me and Bobby McGee,” and battling vampires, outlaws, and crooked sheriffs in many memorable movies. Born into a military family in 1936, Kristofferson led an itinerant life as a kid before his family would eventually settle down in San Mateo, California.
