Why Brian de Palma Had to Kick Oliver Stone off the Set of Scarface

Widely regarded as one of the greatest gangster movies of the ’80s, Scarface has been celebrated for years and constantly referenced in pop culture, thanks to its stylish violence, characterization, and skin-crawling immediacy. It is a remake of Howard Hawks 1932 pre-code crime movie of the same name, which was in turn based on Armitage Trails similarly titled novel. The original film was inspired by Al Capone, who had a scar on his face, hence the title. But rather than chart the same path, the remake took a different path by focusing on a Cuban immigrant who becomes Miamis top gangster.
