The Substance Fans Should Check Out a 1992 Body Horror Comedy

Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance is one of the most buzzed-about movies this year, in large part because of the career-best performance given by star Demi Moore and because of a body horror element that has had critics and audiences gasping long after they have left the theater. It received much-deserved praise, and it’s the kind of admiration that could lead to awards season love for Moore and even some recognition for the film itself. However, for some films to run, others need to walk, and it’s safe to say that 1992’s body horror comedy, Society, did some of that walking, so The Substance could indeed run. Much like The Substance, it’s more than its unsettling body horror sequences. Society is a commentary on the rich and the elite and how they exploit the lower class for their own personal gain.
