Adrien Brody Says ‘Film Is a Dying Breed’

People who beathlessly exhalted Top Gun: Maverick last year for ‘saving movie theaters’ should’ve held that breath until 2023, when the box office has told a very different story. People are understandably sick of franchise fever. New installments in the MCU, the DCU, the Mission Impossible franchise, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, the Transformers franchise, the Indiana Jones franchise, and more have either bombed in 2023 or performed much worse than expected. Of course, that’s not the case for every film (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and the Avatar sequel have done very well). On the other hand, weirder anomalies like Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Sound of Freedom have done incredibly well.
