The National Treasure movies were considered a box office success after their release. The films earned more than $800 million, and because of this, a third installment in the franchise was long expected. However, the franchise went in a different direction, and instead of the movie, the series National Treasure: Edge of History was released. There were indications that the show could achieve the desired popularity among the audience. However, that did not happen, and Disney canceled the show after the first season.
